Getting to Foynes by Road
Foynes is located in the west of County Limerick approximately 35km (22miles/30 minutes) from Limerick City on the N69 route from Limerick to Tralee. If you are travelling from west Clare, you can also cross the Shannon estuary by the Shannon estuary car ferry operating on a regular basis from Killimer in County Clare to Tarbert in County Kerry, just 20km (12.5 miles, 20 minutes) from Foynes.
Getting to Foynes by Bus
There is a limited bus service through Foynes giving you plenty of access to and from Foynes. Bus Eireann is Irelands national bus company and they operate regular services from Limerick. For further details, click HERE to see their web site.
Getting to Foynes by Air
Unfortunately, Flying Boats no longer fly direct into Foynes, but across the Shannon Estuary is Shannon International Airport. Travelling from here by bus, car or car hire, you journey into Limerick by the N18 and then to Foynes by the scenic N69 route, a total of 55km (35miles / 50 minutes).
If you fly into Dublin Airport, take the M50 around Dublin turning off at southbound junction 7. Travel the M7 direct to Limerick. The M7 merges into the N18 at junction 30. Take exit 2 off the N18 (last junction before the Shannon Tunnel) and continue out the N69 to Foynes.
Or if you arrive by Cork Airport, Travel around Cork on the South Ring Road, through the Jack Lynch Tunnel, connect with the N20 to Limerick and out to Foynes by the N69.
