The 2009 Foynes Festival from 6th through 12th July celebrating 70 years of transatlantic travel is now history. We are in the process of compiling photos and video that we can present here soon.
2007 International Flying Boat Festival - July 2007: Earlier in 2007, Captain Patrick White and his son began plans to fly their vintage PBY Catalina Flying Boat, "Vintage Lady", from Botwood, Newfoundland to Foynes. Unfortunately, technical problems which grounded "Vintage Lady", the International Flying Boat Festival was held as plans, commerating the 70th Anniversary to the day of the first passenger trial flights by Pan American Airways and BOAC. The festival was a great success! There was wonderful entertainment, and all had a great time. See some photos from the festival and visit the official festival website, www.foynesfestival.com to learn about the upcoming festival in 2009. Meanwhile, Captain White and crew are still planning the flight for a future date.
Flying Boat Museum re-opens - Jul 2006: After a long winter during which major renovations were underway, our museum held its "grand re-opening" in July 2006 to a very enthusiastic reception. The highlight of the day was the unveiling of our full scale replica of a Boeing B314 Flying Boat! Here are some pictures of our B314 taken on the day and pictures of many of our museum's new features can be seen here, and you can view a video kindly provided to us by John Sherwin of Videos on the Net. Please come by and see our new look!
