Ed Dover’s background more than qualified him to spin this tale of aeronautical adventure. With a youthful fascination with radio communications, he graduated in that subject and joined Pan American Airways as a Flight Radio Officer in 1942. He made many flights aboard Pan Am’s Flying Boats including several on the Pacific Clipper, which is the heroic aircraft in this wonderful book. A chance meeting with old classmates at the 1991 reunion of his high school class resulted in interviews with Captain Ford and Flight Radio Officer Eugene Leach. Those interviews, along with Ed’s personal experiences and considerable research, provided the foundation for this long-overdue authentic account of a significant event in aviation history.
